OLD FILE record:
This has one problem holding up publication.
permissions for reprinting many articles is not
complete, some permissions were rejected so those articles should be removed
and their commentary edited accordingly. Is there a record at ICRANet
Pescara of the permissions obtained so far? The ApJ articles with no
permission have been replaced by hyperlink URLs to their freely available
copies online.
The only hold up is the reprint permission situation
summarized on this page. The
only record I have of permissions obtained is the spread sheet:
fermiandastropermissions.xlsx
The translations of Fermi's articles after his first
articles require someone with fluency in BOTH English AND Italian to clean
up the unprofessional translations discovered during proof editing in Spring
2017, but they are good enough for historical purposes if the
goal is to conclude now. The last two Italian articles which
exist in translation elsewhere have been annotated to include the URL
locations online.
[Individual
translations may be viewed here]
Remo has no interest in paying any consultant to improve these translations, so
they must remain as is.
These old proofs (incomplete) to which bob responded have the page range in their filename, followed by many digits.
proofs1 pages vi-53
proofs2 pages 54-100
proofs3 pages 101-317
current bob editing stalled:
fermiandastro-texfiles201707.zip
fermiandastro-pdffiles201707.zip
download and extract all files from these two zips into a single folder and
latex to PDF the main latex file fermi_book_B.tex.
fermi_book_B.pdf current July 2017 version with bob edit through that date.
The Fermi Collected works to compare translations with the original Italian are at:
The later Italian translations should be cleaned by someone with bilingual scientific abilities. If the project is worth doing, it is worth doing well, and only a professional can complete this job. I prefer the DJVU version of the Collected Works.
The following translations need reviewing:
FI 7 - E. Fermi: The principle of adiabatics and the systems which do not
admit angle coordinates (12) . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 54
FI 8 - E. Fermi: Some theorems of analytical mechanics of great importance

FI 11 - E. Fermi: On the quantization of an ideal monatomic gas (30) . . 85
This article needs permission to be replaced by Giovanni Gallavotti's
translation or we can simply give the URL of the web article in n a footnote:
FI 12 - E. Fermi: A statistical method for the determination of some
properties of the atom (43) . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 89

This article exists in professional translation 1968 by Giovanni
Gallavotti and in the American Journal of Physics (we could just
quote both URLs as a footnote):

old news
April 2017. No changes since July, 2016 except for the title page promotion of Remo Ruffini to the Editor, shifting the previous coauthor list to translators which better reflects their participation in the project, and minor changes to the wording of the preface.
READY. But LaTeX source should be checked by your experts.

NEWFILES FOR ALTERED PREFACE July 4, 2016:
fermi-preface-newfiles.zip
[preface: typeset pdf]
[this zip can be latexed to pdf as a stand along folder, or added to the
previous files after removing "\end{document}" at the end of preface.tex]
Windows Zip of all source files prior to July 4: fermi-and-astrophysics.zip [19MB]
Uses LateX 2 PDF typesetting since the graphics and reprint articles are all PDF files. Presently uses \documentclass{ws-book975x65}.
Needs some LaTeX editing to enable hyperref cross-referencing of table of contents links to chapters and sections in typeset PDF.
Needs some LaTeX editing for the titlepage etc front matter.
There are copyright issues to be solved to reproduce articles.
