Miscellaneous Hints
- When you cannot right click and copy or paste [MS incompetence], after selecting some
text you can do ^C for copy and ^V for paste (where ^X means hold down the control
key and X key simultaneously)
- If your web page does not have a blue title bar entry at the top of the screen,
within Front Page Explorer you can right click on the filename and choose Properties to
edit the Title and give the page a useful one. Notice that when this page is viewed in a
browser, it has no title, but when viewed in Front Page Explorer, the file address is
shown instead of the blank title.
- I couldn't figure out where to put this one: an example of a link to a text file.
- When you enter XP Front Page the default view is Page, but it really should be
Folders so you can see where you are and chose the appropriate page, but I cannot figure
out how to change this default. I still occasionally wait for the file listing to come up
until I realize I have not clicked on the Folders icon yet.
- When inserting URL addresses into hyperlinks in Front Page, you can switch from
the hyperlink dialog window to your default browser and navigate to the page you want and
then return to find the address automatically inserted. Click okay and return to your web
page.
- In Front Page you can File menu, Publish your VU or WebCT website to
your hard drive to download a copy which you can then burn onto a CD for a permanent
record (backup) and then easily upload from your VU space into WebCT, for example. If
Front Page times out or hangs up during the Publish task, you can finish the job one
folder at a time. Later you can update any folder or even select individual files or sets
of files to Publish down to your hard drive.
- I will add more hints as I think of them...and if anyone wants to share their hints,
email me please.
