How to Access Maple8 at Villanova University

At UNIT public sites like in Tolentine Basement or Mendel G28, one must log on to the Novell Network with your standard username and password to use all of Villanova's server provided software. Browsers are locally installed but WORD or EXCEL or MAPLE are found by executing the VU Application Explorer (Network Application Launcher).

Once the Application Explorer is open, choose VUtree, Academic applications, Math & Statistics, MAPLE8, and after a pause (network stuff), MAPLE will open.

In your dorm room you must be connected correctly to the Villanova network. Again you must login to VUTREE with the Novell Network Login which then sets up the VU Application Explorer to get to MAPLE as above. [If you don't know how to do this, check with Student Computer Support in Vasey Hall 101.]

In our classrooms G30, G31 and G27 there is a local network access to MAPLE8 in the Start Menu program listing under Math Apps without need for logging in.

To get to UNIT software from these rooms you have to use the NOVELL LOGIN (network applications icon or start menu program listing) and enter your standard username and password but then click on "advanced", delete the last line entry for server (kingkong or godzilla), and put in "vutree" for the tree and "people.vu" for the context, then ENTER. This sets up the Application Explorer icon where you can enter as above.

In CEER, MAPLE8 is available but someone must supply me with the details since I am locked out of the CEER labs and don't know how the alcove computers are set up.

New Users can best get acquainted with the user interface and how MAPLE works by doing the first 6 sections of the New User Tour, which is found under the HELP menu. Turning on the Balloon Help Toggle there also helps understand the tool bar icons. Or simply look first at the new WYSIWYG interface tutorial.
