====================================== Subject heading: MG12 delayed early registration deadline ====================================== 12th Marcel Grossman Meeting MG12 Paris July 12-18, 2009 Sunday through Saturday Opening Monday morning at UNESCO Headquarters Tuesday afternoon free (Bastille Day) Banquet Wednesday Closing midday Saturday Web: http://www.icra.it/MG/mg12/ Email: mg12@icra.it ================ NEW JUNE 15 DEADLINE: Early registration fee payment at 350 Euros (450 Euros after deadline) Student registration fee payment at 150 Euros (no change after deadline) Final abstract submission =============== Dear colleague, We have extended the deadline for early registration fee payment and abstract submission until June 15 to allow for the wave of last minute activity that typically occurs near the original deadline. The fee payment web page was also experiencing some problems recently, so this should relieve the time pressure. Over 800 participants have registered so far. Those who intend to pay the late registration fee upon arrival should notify us so that we know to take your submitted abstract seriously for program planning. For those on a tight budget we suggest reserving one of the 100 newly renovated student dormitory single rooms with shared bathroom facilities just across from the Ecole Normale Superieure in the heart of the Latin Quarter available on a first come first serve basis. The cost for one person is 200 Euros for Sunday arrival and Saturday departure. For information and to reserve such a room with full payment, contact Pina Barbaro [Pina.BARBARO@unice.fr, tel: +33.6.8068.8150]. There are still several dozen rooms left. Limited financial support may be available but in this global economic climate less funding will be available for MG12 than past meetings. Given the circumstances, in most cases of support requests, participants must be able to finance their own travel to Paris, and only partial contributions in a few strongly scientifically motivated cases can be awarded to help with local expenses and registration fees. We hope to do this with some recently pledged travel support. We take this occasion to announce the Marcel Grossmann Awards for MG12. Institutional Award to: Institut des Hautes Études Scientifique (IHÉS) for its outstanding contributions to mathematics and theoretical physics, and notably for having renewed basic geometrical concepts, and having developed new mathematical and physical aspects of spacetime. Individual Awards to: Jaan Einasto for pioneering contributions in the discovery of dark matter and cosmic web and fostering research in the historical Tartu Observatory. Christine Jones for her fundamental contributions to the X-ray studies of galaxies and clusters tracing their formation and evolution and for her role in collaborations using clusters to study dark matter and in analyzing the effects of outbursts from supermassive black holes on the intracluster gas. Michael Kramer for his fundamental contributions to pulsar astrophysics, and notably for having first confirmed the existence of spin-orbit precession in binary pulsars. We look forward to a successful meeting this July. With our warm greetings, Remo Ruffini, chair of International Organizing Committee ruffini@icra.it Robert Jantzen, chair of International Coordinating Committee robert.jantzen@villanova.edu Pierre Coullet, chair of Local Organizing Committee Pierre.COULLET@unice.fr
